Fano forces in Alefa , Gondar (SM)

Borkena

Toronto – Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM) is making claims of significant military  gain in the Alefa, Gondar area of the Amhara region, against joint government joint forces including the Defense force.

Abebe Fentaw, Partnership & Cooperation Directorate of AFNM, on Wednesday said that 231 government forces were killed and 67 other wounded in the latest operation in Alefa district.  53 government forces are reportedly captured.

Access to the region is restricted and Borkena was unable to independently verify Fano’s claim.

According to Abebe,  Alefa district is now under Fano forces “full control” and fano forces have stormed seven fortifications around the city.

In addition, Fano forces said they set 45 prisoners free. Many of them were said to be arrested simply because they were family members to Fano fighters.

Furthermore, massive firearms including group assault rifles are seized from the operation.

AFNM divisions of Quara Omedla, Karamara, Adwa and Fitawurari Gebeyew reportedly conducted the joint operation.

Key Fano  military leaders were reportedly in the battle.

The operation in Alefa came two days after the operation in Shawura where Fano forces claimed another major victory. Hundreds of defense force members and anti-riot forces were killed in the operation.  48 bodies were buried by community members in the Shawura area, according to a Fano forces report.

The Defense Force has not remarked about Fano forces’ claim at the time of this writing.

On Sunday in the evening the government launched a drone strike in Shaura around 10 P.M. in the evening following Fano forces control of Shaura town. They have retreated from the town following the drone strike.

Non-combatant civilians were reportedly killed in the attack. However, the number of causalities were unspecified.

Last week, reports were emerging that government forces were withdrawing from many areas of the Amhara region as the government deployed forces on the Tigray region and along the Eritrean border.
