Credit: Tom Kenning<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>State-run utility Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has issued a request for qualification (RfQ) for two solar PV projects each with a capacity of 125MW<sub>(AC)<\/sub>.<\/p>\n<p>The tender will be structured through the World Bank\u2019s \u2018Scaling Solar\u2019 programme and the deadline for applications is 21 November 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The Ethiopian tender is the fifth Scaling Solar tender in Africa to date.<\/p>\n<p>For example, Madagascar\u2019s Ministry of Water, Energy and Hydrocarbons (MEEH) recently issued an RfQ for 25MW<sub>(AC) <\/sub>of solar near the capital Antananarivo.\u00a0A qualification stage for this tender is expected soon, according to the Scaling Solar website.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, Zambia\u2019s Round 1 projects are expected to reach financial close soon, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-tech.org\/news\/senegal-plans-200mw-solar-via-ifc-scaling-solar-programme\">Senegal<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-tech.org\/news\/zambias-idc-prequalifies-12-bidders-for-300mw-solar-auction\">Zambia\u2019s Round 2<\/a> have both gone through qualification stages and are awaiting the proposal stage.<\/p>\n<p>Back in the summer, PV Tech looked at how\u00a0African solar must find its feet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-tech.org\/news\/african-solar-must-find-its-feet-beyond-development-finance\">beyond development finance<\/a>.
