Ethiopia football fraternity is mourning the sudden demise of former international Aseged Tesfaye who passed on from suspected heart attack.
Tesfaye, who ran a football academy in the capital Addis Ababa collapsed and died in his bathroom after Saturday morning training.
Born in Dire Dawa City in East Ethiopia, Tesfaye was a revered forward, who perfected the role of a false nine in his hey days. He was famous for his veracious shots while turning out for Addis giants St. George and Ethiopian Bunna.
Tesfaye also played for Ethiopia Insurance at one point in his illustrious career, which saw him serve the national team “the Walia Ibex” for over a decade.
While at Bunna, which he joined in 1996, Tesfaye is remembered for becoming the first player to score five goals in a single CAF club championship match. This he achieved against St. Michel of Seychelles in the African Champions League, a record which holds to date.
