Following Ethiopia’s Public-Private Partnerships Directorate General (PPP-DG) launch of round 2 of its Scaling Solar program in April with the release of the Request for Pre-Qualification (RFQ), the PPP-DG has announced that it will be expanding the RFQ from four to six projects with a total capacity of up to 750 MWac. In addition to the Weranso, Welenchiti, Humera, and Mekele sites the PPP-DG will be adding two more sites in Metema / Bahir Dar and Hurso.
As reported, in early April Ethiopia calls for proposals for the ongoing round one with 250 MW PV projects as part of the (former) 500 MW World Bank’s Scaling Solar program. In March state owned utility Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) published the list of pre-qualified bidders in this competitive tender. 28 applications with 12 bidders were successfully pre-qualified. All pre-qualified bidders have been sent a formal invitation to submit their final proposal for the two solar photovoltaic projects, each with a capacity of up to 125 MWac. The tender was launched by the Ethiopian Government and EEP in October 2017.
