Addis Ababa, Aug 17 ( Prensa Latina ) Ethiopia”s Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, arrived Saturday in Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, where he will preside over the signing of the Constitutional Declaration between the Transitional Military Council and the Forces for Freedom and Change.
The Ethiopian premier and his delegation were welcomed by Lieutenant General Jamal-Eddin Omer Ibrahim, head of the Council’s Security and Defence Committee, according to a report released in the capital by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Ahmed joined a group of personalities who also travelled to the Sudanese city to participate in the ceremony, including the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, and Turkey’s Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu.
On August 4, the Council, the ruling military junta, and the opposition organization Forces for Freedom and Change signed an agreement that paves the way for political and institutional change in the North African country.
Sudan has been experiencing a political crisis since huge demonstrations broke out in December 2018, which reached a critical point in April when President Omar Hassan al Bashir, who had ruled for almost 30 years, resigned.
