
Photo: Twitter/@KremlinRussia_EAddis Ababa, Oct 23 ( Prensa Latina ) Ethiopia and Russia signed an intergovernmental agreement to cooperate in the development of peaceful exploitation of nuclear energy, the African nation’s media reported today.
Signed on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa Summit in the Russian city of Sochi, the agreement creates a legal basis for the Eurasian nation’s assistance in establishing and developing nuclear infrastructure on Ethiopian territory.
It also includes the terms for establishing nuclear and radiation safety regulations, and the physical protection of materials, radiation sources and storage sites, according to Fana Broadcasting Corporate.
The text, adds the TV station, also foresees the contribution in basic and applied research related to the peaceful management of this energy, the production of radioisotopes and their use in various sectors, among other issues.
Ethiopia and Russia will particularly collaborate in research, the exchange of experts, the organization of seminars and conferences, and the exchange of scientific information, reported Walta TV.
It will also allow the parties to consider the possibility of building a nuclear research center in the country located in the so-called Horn of Africa.
