ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia and Turkey have signed water and military financial cooperation in the presence of leaders of the two countries – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The agreement was signed in Ankara, Turkey where PM Abiy and his delegation went on Wednesday for a day-long official visit.
State Minister of foreign affairs, Ambassador Redwan Hussein, and the Defense Minister Dr. Kenea Yadeta, signed the agreements representing Ethiopia. Details of the deals were not immediately available.
Ankara and Addis Ababa have friendly relations and the two leaders pledged to boost economic cooperation and trade.
“The agreements we have signed are vital in strengthening relationships between Ethiopia and Turkey,” Prime Minister Abiy said.
“I appreciate Turkey’s support in Ethiopia’s continued development and stability,” he added.
President Erdogan, on his part, commended the long standing bilateral relations between the two countries reaffirming commitment to transform the ties to a higher level in several areas of cooperation.
Abiy came back to Ethiopia on the same day. Upon his return, he said “Ethiopia will never forget the critical time cooperation the people and government of Turkey extended to us”.Share this
