
Covid-19: Ethiopia Records More Daily Recoveries than New Cases
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health has reported more recoveries from the Covid-19 respiratory disease than new cases on Sunday.
The daily recoveries total outnumbered fresh cases in the country for the first time since July 19, 2021.
The country has recorded 785 new cases after conducting 6,108 tests in the last twenty-four hours, the Ministry’s daily Covid-19 report shows. It also says 880 patients have also recovered from the respiratory disease in the same period.
Today’s report also indicates the cumulative death toll in the country has reached 4,561 with 8 more people succumbing to the disease on Sunday.
The severe cases tally has jumped by at least 6 as compared to the previous day.
About 484 severely ill patients are currently receiving medical attentions in Covid-19 hospitals, says the report, which puts the national active cases count at 22,109.
In terms of the Covid-19 vaccination drive, the Ministry reports at least 6,538 vaccines have been administered to people.
Ethiopia began vaccinating its nationals on March 13 – a week after they received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
To date, the ministry has offered 2,343,609 vaccine doses, mostly AstraZeneca, to the public.
The East African nation confirmed its first case on March 13, last year. Since then it has conducted more than 3.16 million tests to confirm 295,804 infections. About 269, 132 of the infected people have already recovered.
