Ethiopia Records 1, 334 New Coronavirus Cases, 27 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 1, 334 more Covid-19 cases and 27 related fatalities on Friday, data from the ministry of health shows.

In its daily Covid-19 report, the ministry says a total of 7, 117 tests have been conducted in the last twenty-four hours to confirm the new positive infections.

The national death toll has also reached 4, 884 after 27 patients succumbed to the disease in the reported period. The country has registered 27 fatality daily death tallies for two consecutive days.

Currently, there are 753 severely sick patients, reveals the ministry’s report, which puts the active case count at 28, 057.

It also says as many as 1, 697 patients have recovered from the acute respiratory disease caused by coronavirus in the day.

Ethiopia confirmed its first case on March 13, last year. Since then it has conducted close to 3.32 million tests to confirm 321, 787 infections. About 288, 844 of the infected people have already recovered.

In terms of the vaccination drive, the report shows a total of 22, 226 people have been vaccinated against the Covid-19 in the last 24-hours.

Health officials began inoculating its nationals on March 13 – a week after they received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.

To date, they have administered 2, 570, 241 vaccine doses to the public.
