ADDIS ABABA – Over $800,000 has been raised from ticket sales for the Great Ethiopian Homecoming fundraising dinner hosted at the national place last Sunday.
It was announced on Saturday by the national causes donation platform Eyezon Ethiopia, which availed its platform to ticketing.
Ethiopians in diaspora came to their home country to support and rebuild the economy, heeding Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s call to visit Ethiopia.
The Sunday’s homecoming dinner was held at the National Palace for the Diasporas as part of a fundraising campaign for internally displaced People in Ethiopia.
Senior government officials including PM Abiy and other invited guests also attended the dinner.
“We have sold over $800,000 worth of tickets on #Eyezon platform including the swift-transfers,” for the event, said Eyezon Ethiopia.
The newly raised figure has further increased the amount of contributions that Ethiopian diasporas raised using the platform launched on December 29, 2021.
Previously, they made over 400 million birr contributions in support of internally displaced people via the platform, according to Ethiopian Diaspora Agency (EDA)
Eyezon is a gift-based crowdfunding platform that enables nonprofit organizations to raise money online from supporters with the causes they are passionate about.
The project is owned by the EDA and the platform was developed by Chapa Financial Technologies S.C. (Chapa), a homegrown fintech company that previously developed mygerd.com – a platform for donation to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) construction project.
