Editor’s Note: Football star, national coach, and sports leader Yidnekachew Tessema, affectionately nicknamed the “Father of African Sport was remembered last week in Addis Ababa.

Yidnekachew had served as the President of the Confederation of African Football, President of the Union of African Sports Confederations, honorary President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa, Member of the Executive Committee of the Supreme Council for Sports in Africa and member of the International Olympic Committee.

Yidnekatchew died 18 August 1987 at the age of 65 due to long term illness and the 27th year anniversary of his passing away was marked last week. Please listen journalist Ezra Ejigu’s report below
