ADDIS ABABA – The CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group, Mesfin Tasew has been elected to the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The election took place on the second day of the 78th IATA Annual General Meeting in Doha, Qatar.
The three-day event has attracted more than 1000 participants including the industry’s most senior leaders, government officials, strategic partners, and equipment suppliers.
On Monday, the general meeting elected a new chair and members of the board of governors of the association that IATA represents 290 airlines comprising 83% of global air traffic.
The Doha meeting has named now only a new chair for BoG but also his next successor.
Accordingly, Pegasus Airlines Vice-Chairperson of the Board, Mehmet Tevfik Nane has assumed his duties as Chair of the IATA Board of Governors (BoG) for a one-year term, starting Tuesday.
IATA also says RwandAir CEO Yvonne Manzi Makolo will serve as Chair of the BoG from June 2023, following Nane’s term. Makolo will be the first woman to take on these duties. Currently, only 9% of IATA airline CEOs are women.
The general meeting has also elected the newly appointed CEO of Ethiopian Airlines group Mesfin Tasew to serve as a member of the IATA BoG.
He succeeds his predecessor at Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde Gebremariam, who retired from his position in March this year due to health problems
