[IN-DEPTH] Interview with Ethiopian Korean War veteran Belachew Amenshewa WoldekirosUpdated: 2022-06-24 17:35:09 KST

Like we’ve heard, tomorrow marks the 72nd anniversary of the June 25th Korean War.
During that time, alongside Korean soldiers, hundreds of thousands of troops were dispatched from many countries, including the U.S., the UK, Thailand, the Philippines, and Ethiopia.
Many events are being held over the weekend to pay respects and express gratitude to our war veterans, but as President Yoon Suk-yeol recently mentioned, more efforts to support them further and their families are deemed necessary.

On News Indepth tonight, we invite Belachew Amenshewa Woldekiros a Korean War veteran from Ethiopia, who is visiting Seoul.

1. First I must say, welcome back to Korea, Mr. Woldekiros.
So, how long has it been since you were last in South Korea? What have you been doing during your stay? And how do you feel to be back?

2. When exactly did you participate in the Korean War? And what prompted you to? And how many times were you sent here?

3. We hear that during your latest visit you met a special acquaintance? How did that make you feel?

4. We hear that a total of 87 Ethiopian soldiers participated in the Korean War. Have you had any contact with any of them? How are they?

5. What kind of special treatment or any type of honorary support does Ethiopia or South Korea have for veterans of the Korean War and their families? Is there anything you’re receiving? And what more do you think could be done to help?

(extra) 6. You will be returning to your home country soon, before you do so, do you have any sort of message you want to pass on to the people of South Korea and our viewers?

Alright, we wish you all the best, and on behalf of our viewers, thank you so much for your sacrifices, we sincerely appreciate it.
