የአማራ ብሔራዊ ንቅናቄ / National Movement of Amhara

Statement on the Peace Process Pursued by the African Union (AU) and on the “Issue” of Amhara Representation in the Peace Process.

********

“Disarm TPLF” is the united voice and demand of all Ethiopians irrespective of ethnic, religious, and cultural differences! IT IS NOT ethnic representation by a self-appointed “representatives” in AU-led peace negotiation!

“Amhara Representation in the Negotiation” is a TPLF’s ploy to change and transform the nature of the negotiation from a face-off between the Ethiopian government and a terrorist-rebel-group towards a political settlement platform among Ethiopian ethnic groups.

________

The National Movement of Amhara (NaMA) has been keenly following up the peace efforts undergoing under the umbrella of the African Union. NaMA recognizes and appreciates the efforts of His Honorable Macky Sall, President of Senegal and Chairman of the African Union, His Honorable Mr. Moussa Faki, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and His Honorable Olusegun Obasanjo, High representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for the Horn of Africa, in their unreserved efforts to bring peace to our country, Ethiopia.

NAMA believes the only viable and sustainable option to end the conflict in the North of the country is to disarm the terrorist, genocidal, expansionist and warmongering TPLF. Given the inherent nature and track record of the terrorist TPLF with a fascistic ideology, NaMA is convinced no amount of peace efforts will bring the genocidal TPLF to the negotiating table and end its terrorist operations. However, NaMA doesn’t oppose any peace efforts undergoing under the umbrella of the African Union to produce a peaceful settlement to the conflict propagated, sparked, and sustained by the expansionist TPLF. NaMA believes the minimum bar set for the negotiation to be fruitful must be disarming the genocidal and expansionist TPLF and must result in protecting the legitimate interests and demands of the Ethiopian people at large and the conflict affected regions of the Amhara and Afar people. A peaceful settlement less than disarming the terrorist TPLF amounts to suicidal to the Ethiopian state and a verdict to a never ending and perpetual war on the Ethiopian people.

TPLF is the enemy of the Ethiopian state and all the people of Ethiopia. The daughters and sons of all Ethiopians from all corners of Ethiopia irrespective of ethnic, religious and cultural differences are fighting the terrorist group in order to ensure the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our beloved country, Ethiopia! Thanks to the united voices, unreserved support and sacrifices of all Ethiopians, the terrorist TPLF backed by the historical enemies of Ethiopia is crumbling to the point of collapse. “Disarm TPLF” is the united voice and demand of all Ethiopians irrespective of ethnic, religious, and cultural differences! However, consistent with previous patterns some actors in the “international” community are trying to rescue and rehabilitate the terrorist organization and putting undue pressure on the Ethiopian government and scaling up its pressure to rescue the genocidal TPLF. NaMA condemns in the strongest terms any support in any form from any side, foreign and domestic, to rescue and rehabilitate a terrorist organization that put at risk the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country.

Unfortunately, this tactical support to the enemy is not just coming from foreign elements but also from domestic actors too. Some disgruntled, misguided and naive Amhara politicians and political personalities are knowingly or unknowingly providing tactical support to the enemy in the name of “Amhara Representation”. “Amhara Representation” in the AU-led negotiation is a ploy initiated and backed by the enemy in order to change and transform the nature of the negotiation from a face-off between the Ethiopian government and a terrorist-rebel-group towards a political settlement platform among Ethiopian ethnic groups legitimizing TPLF as a true representative of the people of Tigray. It is in the interest of terrorist TPLF to sit and negotiate with a self-appointed “representatives” of multiple ethnic groups than the collective will of the Ethiopian people represented by the incumbent government.

The next move of the enemy and its sponsors will be to make other ethnic groups self-appointed “representatives” to write letters to the AU requesting representation. A political settlement among various ethnic and political groups is a matter to be handled and managed by national mechanisms and it should be brokered neither by the international mediators nor by AU-led peace efforts. The issues of Wolkait and Raya can’t be brokered by international mediators and it is automatically rejected by the people of Amhara if it ever materializes. Any Amhara who calls for the internationalization of such domestic agenda is not pursuing the interests of Amhara rather serving the enemy. Such initiatives are counterproductive to the interests of the Ethiopian people at large and in particular to the people of Amhara. Any Amhara politician or political personality who participates in such initiatives is betraying the Amhara people and providing tactical support to the enemy!

NaMA has consistently demonstrated that the party shall not align its efforts with the enemies of the state under the camouflage of scoring political points against the incumbent government. It’s NaMA’s policy and strategic direction to prioritize the interests of the state and the nation at large. The challenges the Amhara people experiencing for decades are structural and systematic designed and put into place by none other than the genocidal TPLF and its cronies. NaMA struggles to bring structural and systemic reforms to the governance principles and administrative structure of our country in order to end the suffering of all Ethiopians and in particular the Amhara people. One way of tackling and solving the systemic and structural challenges of the Ethiopian people at large and Amhara people in particular is through neutralizing the architects of the reigning system and its guardians. Though NaMA has serious reservations and differences with the incumbent government, NaMA stands by the Ethiopian government in its military, diplomatic and political efforts to neutralize the terrorist TPLF and its cronies. NaMA also condemns in the strongest terms any effort by any party or personality to delegitimize the military, diplomatic and political efforts of the Ethiopian government in the face of the terrorist TPLF, which amounts to providing tactical support to the enemy.

Therefore, the National Movement of Amhara (NaMA):

▪ Calls on the Ethiopian government to intensify and accelerate its defensive efforts to neutralize the offensives capabilities of terrorist TPLF and decapitat the terrorist organization;

▪ Calls on the international community to fully recognize the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ethiopia, work together with the Ethiopian government towards disarming terrorist TPLF and stop undue pressure on the Ethiopian people and the incumbent government in the face of fighting a terrorist organization;

▪ Calls on all the Ethiopian people to continue their unreserved support to the Ethiopian National Defense Forces and allied forces in our fight against the terrorist TPLF which has been havocking our country since it came to existence;

▪ Calls on all Amhara politicians and political personalities to refrain from unwise and counterproductive moves pushed from behind by our enemies and to take all precautions not to fall for the ploy set by the enemy in the name of “Amhara Representation”.
