South Sudan and Ethiopia on Thursday inked agreement for construction of Paloch – Mathiang – Maiwut – Pagak roads connecting western Ethiopia with northeastern part of South Sudan.

JUBA, MAY 19, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan and Ethiopia on Thursday inked agreement for construction of Paloch – Mathiang – Maiwut – Pagak roads connecting western Ethiopia with northeastern part of South Sudan.
The agreement signed by Eyob Tekalign, Ethiopia’s state minister of finance, and South Sudan minister of finance Dier Tong Ngor, was witnessed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit at the statehouse on Thursday afternoon.
Speaking following the signing, Kiir described the deal as a strategic project that connects people of both countries and serves their needs.
“Our hope is to move together to help one another; this is what our people want to see. This is a strategic project that connects our people and serves their needs,” Kiir said.
Eyob, the visiting Ethiopia state minister of finance, said the project will rectify the artificial border separation and brings the two sisterly countries much closer.
“The construction of this road impact is not only seamless commercial connectivity but also rectifies the artificial border separation and brings the keens of two sisterly countries much closer,” he said.
“The construction of the road is expected to impact the economic activities of the two sisterly countries as well as will play a pertinent role in cementing peace in parts of the regions of both countries,” he added.
They have however not indicated as to when the project will commence.
