Veteran of the National Defence Force and Karamara hero Ali Berke passed away abruptly from illness at the age of 72, according to OBN.

Siad Barre’s forces marched to the eastern front in 1976 after crossing the Ethiopian border and receiving militia soldier training. Ali Berke, a hero, complied with the call of the people to fight against Barre’s troops.

Ali Berke, a volunteer soldier, was sent on the eastern front, specifically in Jigjiga, Chnaksan, and the Ogaden.
The Siad Barre kingdom, which had been preparing to conquer Ethiopia for years, was met by him in a valiant battle.

According to reports, the army’s triumph was primarily due to the enemy’s tenacious action, particularly in January 1977when they held Dhakata and Karamara.

Ethiopia was able to beat the enemy army in the Aad Barre as a result of a potent counterattack, resulting in a legendary triumph.

The tenacious hero Ali Barke gave a thorough account of how he used the five incendiary bombs he had at his disposal to destroy five enemy tanks and send the enemy army scattering and running.

For his incredible act of valour, Ali Berke became the first individual in history to receive the Nisha, the nation’s highest combat honour, in 1971.

Ali Berke’s name was chanted by singer Wendy Mak when she released a song on the Karamara War.
