New conflict is brewing in one of the most war-torn parts of the world

Ethiopia’s president, Abiy Ahmed, has signed a deal with Somaliland in his latest attempt to get his landlocked country direct access to the sea. In return, Ethiopia could become the first country in the world to recognise Somaliland—a territory which claims independence from Somalia. Abiy hails this as an act of diplomacy, but could it further destabilise an already volatile part of the world?
