Authorities of the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) have suspended the One Ethiopia Democratic Party and its leaders pending a criminal investigation into alleged financial fraud.
A notice from the Board addressed to the opposition party yesterday accuses its members of misusing a 2.7 million birr government subsidy this financial year.
The Board alleges much of the subsidy was disbursed illegitimately and without receipts, and accuses the party’s leaders of making unlawful withdrawals.
NEBE will file a legal claim for the return of the allegedly misused funds, according to the notice.
