Why are there no obstacles against Raila
His sentiments came after the African Union Executive Council unanimously agreed that it was the turn of the Eastern Africa region to produce candidates for the position.
The decision was made on Friday, March 15, during the 22nd Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of the AU.
Mudavadi described the council’s decision as a significant breakthrough in Kenya’s bid to present a candidate.
“This is a major breakthrough for the Eastern Africa region to present candidates for the position of Chairperson of the AUC,” said Mudavadi.
According to Mudavadi, the continental bloc would no longer demand that the next AUC chair be a woman.
Raila Odinga’s candidature for AU Commission chairmanship
Citing experience and commitment to championing the African continent’s interests, Raila declared his bid for the job on February 15.
His bid was swiftly endorsed by former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, who recognised the former prime minister’s Pan-Africanism spirit.
Raila immediately started lobbying for his candidature, revealing that he currently has six presidents on his fold.
The AUC chairperson post falls vacant in 2025 following the lapse of Moussa Faki’s second and last term.
