The US has continued its national emergency with respect to Ethiopia for another year in accordance with s. 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (President Biden’s letter). In September 2021, President Biden issued Executive Order 14046 which:
- declared a national emergency with respect to Ethiopia due to the alleged threat to US national security posed by activity in Northern Ethiopia; and
- imposed sanctions on certain persons for their alleged roles in the humanitarian crisis in Ethiopia.
