Toronto – Biresaw Minale, a businessman from the Amhara region of Ethiopia, is reportedly assassinated in Addis Ababa on Monday.

Local sources are reporting different narratives about circumstances under which he was killed. Meseret Media, reported on its social media page,  that the businessman was killed in his car as he was honking for the gate of his residence to be opened.

His residence is  in Lemi Kura area in a locality of “Athletes village.”

There are also sources that reported the businessman was killed in his house.

The incident occurred around 7:30 P.M. local time. Local sources also said he was buried at Salite Mehret Church in Addis Ababa.

Addis Ababa Police has not remarked about the story. The latest update from Addis Ababa police, published on social media, is about the fireworks for the Gregorian New Year.

It is also indicated that power was out in the area at the time of the assassination – perhaps suggesting that the killing was coordinated.

Biresaw Minale, who is said to be from Bichena, Amhara region of Ethiopia, was running business in the manufacturing sector and hospitality industry.

He owns Shebel Berenta Cement factory and AccessCom Plc – according to Meseret Media.

There have been similar killings of businessmen in recent weeks outside the capital Addis Ababa.

The crime rate in the country has been growing in the country over the past six years – since Abiy Ahmed became president. The trend is seen in both capital Addis Ababa and other parts of the country.
