An international development expert from Cumbria will give a talk in Carlisle on the 1984-85 Ethiopian famine.
Joe Human MBE, who worked for Oxfam at the time, will be speaking at the event organised by Carlisle One World Centre.
It marks 40 years since the famine, which was highlighted by the BBC footage of Michael Buerk and Mohamed Amin.
At the event, Mr Human will discuss the complex causes of such disasters—economic, political, and environmental—that lead to destitution and starvation.
He will also address the global response to the famine, the impact of climate change on future famines, and the importance of understanding population and food supply dynamics.
The talk will conclude by asking what our responses should be.
The free event, open to all, will take place at Botcherby Community Centre on Wednesday, January 22, at 7pm.
Tickets can be booked through Eventbrite.
