“Salsay Weyane Tigray unequivocally condemns these acts of terrorism”

Borkena
Toronto – An opposition party operating in the Tigray Ethiopia is reacting to the recent incidents in Adi Gudom and Mehoni – among other areas in the region. At least two civilians were killed and several others injured as one of the factions that reportedly undertook the ‘creeping coup’ made moves to control the office at gunpoint.
Salsay Weyane Tigray – an ethnic Tigray opposition party whose political voice appears to have been growing – blamed the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and its “military wing” for what it called ” targeted killings and torture of Tigrayan citizens” based on political views.
The statement from the party, which was released on Monday, did not make a distinction as to which TPLF factions were behind the killings and rights abuse of civilians in the above mentioned areas. It has been extensively reported, including on Borkena, that the TPLF faction under the leadership of Debretsion Gebremichael is allegedly behind the “coup” in the region with support from the military commanders in the region.
Salsay Weyane accused TPLF of civilian killings and rights violation under the guise of “law and order enforcement,” The party started “Under the pretense of a “law and order enforcement” campaign, the TPLF has openly admitted responsibility for these acts of violence. It is a fundamental principle of law that no political organization possesses the legitimate authority to usurp the legal system and enforce order through extrajudicial means. Yet, the TPLF persists in employing brutal force to suppress public dissent against its illegal dissolution of established governmental structures.”
For the party, the action that TPLF, the faction under Debretsion to be specific, has been taking is blocking peaceful ways of resolving the political crisis in the region.
The party called on the TPLF to end “unlawful martial law decree” – apparently a reference to claims of Debretsion’s faction’s “law enforcement” actions. It is reportedly worsening the tension in the region.
Also, the party called on “international human rights organizations” to undertake an investigations into ” rampant ongoing violations and to bring them to the attention of the international community for the purposes of accountability and justice”
As reported earlier this week, Getachew Reda, the President of Tigray Region Interim Administration, was ousted from power and fled to the capital Addis Ababa. However, he denied in a recent interview with Reyot media that he was not overthrown and is still President of the Interim Administration. He vows to return to the Tigray region.
Observers – including key politicians from the region like Gebru Asrat – remarked that the faction under Debretsion – who is also accused of working with Eritrea – is pursuing a direction that could bring another war to the region.
