Addis Ababa, Ethiopia-The National Bank of Ethiopia has announced that government borrowing has decreased to “zero” this year.

This announcement was made by the Governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Mamo Mihretu, at the Ethiopian Finance Forum, which began today in Addis Ababa, as reported by Fana BC.

The Governor acknowledged that Ethiopia’s financial sector has been facing numerous challenges, including inflation and foreign exchange shortages. He stated that Ethiopia has embarked on comprehensive macroeconomic reforms to address these issues.

He indicated that these reforms are aimed at increasing the inclusiveness and competitiveness of Ethiopia’s financial sector, resolving foreign exchange shortages, attracting foreign trade and foreign direct investment, and controlling inflation.

He further stated that efforts to realize the macroeconomic reform visions have made it possible to resolve the foreign exchange shortage and establish a financial sector that involves the private sector.

He also noted that the macroeconomic reform has made it possible to make the country’s financial sector competitive and market-oriented, private sector-centered, digitized, and secure.
