Toronto – The Federal government has reportedly agreed to lift a ban on Tigray bound consumer good delivery trucks.

According to local news sources, the decision came following a meeting between Let. General Tadesse Worede, President of Tigray Interim Administration, and General Demelash  Gebremichael Commissioner of the Federal Police.

Trucks carrying essential consumer commodities that were halted in the Serdo Afar region of Ethiopia with orders from the Federal Police  are now allowed to proceed to the region. The Federal police has reportedly ordered for the trucks halted in Afar region to be allowed to head to Tigray region.

The trucks were banned from heading to Tigray on grounds  of suspicion that the “goods they were delivering to Tigray could be smuggled to  were also being smuggled to Eritrea,” sources said.

The Federal police and the Tigray Interim Administration have reportedly reached an agreement to form a joint committee to investigate the matter. Inspection system is to be introduced based on the findings of the investigation to ensure “accountability.”  The joint committee is mandated to oversee the implementation.

In the past few weeks, there have been reports that the Tadesse Worede Administration is facing difficulty as it proved difficult to implement policies and regulations due to resistance from the TPLF group under Debretsion Gebremichael.

Upon appointment as Tigray region Interim President, in late April, one of the mission he was given from the Federal government was to control what the Federal government called illegal relations between groups in the region and “external forces.”

This week there was a report that checkpoints between Eritrea and the Tigray region of Ethiopia were opened along the Zalambessa and Shiraro border areas between the two countries. The development is related to the new Eritrean government and Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) alliance
