The Nigerian Billionaire working on expansion of his cement plant in the country

Toronto – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Friday held discussion with Nigerian Billionaire Aliko Dangote. In a social media update, the PM indicated that the focus was “strategic investment” in the country.
“I had the pleasure of welcoming my brother, Aliko Dangote, today. We held in-depth discussions on strategic investment areas aimed at addressing Ethiopia’s pressing needs. I look forward to our continued and strengthened cooperation,” Abiy wrote on his social media page.
He also expressed hope for “continued and strengthened cooperation.” No further detail was available. However, state owned Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation indicated that the “talks signal a potential expansion of their collaborative efforts.”
Aliko Dangote is said to have over $28 billion net worth and he is one of the major investors in Ethiopia’s manufacturing sector.
His cement factory in the country was launched in 2015 with over $500 million investment. The operation faced security setbacks soon after Abiy Ahmed took office as Prime Minister in 2018.
Deep Kamara, manager of Dangote Cement Ethiopia, was killed by radical ethnic oromo nationalist gunmen operating in the region.
In February this year, The African Reported that Aliko expressed plans to build a second production line for the Mugher cement factory in Ethiopia with the aim to double the production capacity to 5 million tons of cement per year.
The new expansion plan is said to cost $400 million, according to a report by Niarametrics. He also has plans to expand in the sugar production sector in the country focusing on the Omo Kuraz Sugar Factory.
