Toronto – Three prominent Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) military commanders reportedly arrived in Addis Ababa in what is said to be a sign of defection to Tigray Peace Force.
Tigray Peace Force is an army operating in the Afar region of Ethiopia for over a year now with the aim to challenge TPLF through armed struggle. Noble former TPLF figures like Tsadkan Gebretensae and dozens of former TPLF central committee members are said to be supportive of this group.
According to credible sources from Tigray, General Geush Gebre, General Kebede Gekadu and Colonel Negus.
General Geush Gebre was briefly arrested last month in Adigrat after reportedly resenting military cooperation with Eritrea.
The generals have also expressed opposition to TPLF’s move to trigger another round of war in the region. The war between TPLF and the Federal government, which was fought between 2020-2022, is said to have claimed at least 600,000 lives. Eritrea was involved in this war on the side of the Federal government.
Notably, the TPLF commemorated its 51 year anniversary on Wednesday. Debretsion Gebremichael’s , the chairman, key message on the occasion was that “the Federal government is preparing to invade Tigray” and that it will be resisted militarily.
