Toronto – Over the past few days, news of negotiation between Abiy Ahmed’s Federal government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (T

PLF) was circulating on social media.

There were sources who reported that Key TPLF leaders including Debretsion Gebremichael are in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to hold talks with PM Abiy Ahmed.

It came at a time when fears of a new war between the Federal government and the TPLF were heightening. Video footage of the alleged meeting was circulating on social media.   And there was an assumption that the talk aims to reverse possible war in the region.

As it turns out, there are no ongoing meetings  if what the TPLF says is correct. The organization has denied any ongoing talks with the federal government,  according to sources.

It stressed that there is no talk, whatsoever, with the Federal government.

The video footage that was circulating on social media was from two years ago, it was said.

Last week, PM Abiy Ahmed had a forty minute long interview, in Tigrigna language, with the state-owned Ethiopian Press Enterprise. He alleged  that the “TPLF is preparing for war” warning that the defeat it will be facing will be worse than it was during the 2020-2022 war. He said, ” It will be flushed away.”

The government has also been accusing Eritrea of supporting the TPLF in its effort to start a war.  Debresion Gebremichal led TPLF is believed to have about 200,000 armed forces. However, there have been reports of protests against new war projects in the region.  Thousands of forces have crossed to the Afar region where they organized themselves as “Tigray Peace Force” with the aim to battle the TPLF.

In a related development , General Megbey Haile on Monday said that TPLF is now armed with anti-drone implying that the use of drones from the Federal government in the event of another war, which many anticipate could happen any time, is no longer a threat.

Meanwhile, the Ethiopian Defense Forces is reportedly withdrawing troops from the region. But no confirmation or statement from the defense force. The troops were deployed over the past two weeks following TPLF provocations along the Telemt and wolkait area.
