Toronto – Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on Wednesday claimed that they shot down an Ethiopian government drone.

Citizens reported on social media that SAF said the drone was shot down  in Kordofan, inside the Sudan border. They allege that the drones were flying from Ethiopia.

A video footage of a man in SAF uniform purportedly showing the shot down drone in flames is circulating on social media.  It is said to be a Turkish made Bayraktar drone.

The news is not independently verified. The video is available here

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not remarked about it.

There has been allegation from the government of Sudan that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government – a close ally of United Arab Emirates – is supporting the rebels forces in Sudan.

Sudanese news sources reported in late February that Sudanese rebel forces intensified drone attacks in the parts of Sudan that borders Ethiopia.

The Government evacuated civilians from the town of Kurmuk among others. The Sudanese rebels are armed with drones which are allegedly supplied by the United Arab Emirates.
