An international counsel team acting on behalf of the two sisters of journalist Ahmed Shihab-Eldin is filing urgent appeals with United Nations experts, raising concerns about his arrest, prosecution and ongoing arbitrary detention.

“We miss our brother Ahmed desperately and we are so worried about him. Today marks 46 agonising days since he was arrested. I am hopeful that the U.S. Government will now take urgent steps to bring Ahmed home as soon as possible,” said Lara Eldin, Ahmed Shihab-Eldin’s sister.

Shihab-Eldin’s sisters have instructed an expert legal team to act on their behalf, Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC, Kate Gibson and Niamh Ní Aonghusa BL, that has extensive experience in securing the freedom of wrongly detained individuals worldwide and acting for journalists at risk.

“He is an American citizen, and the U.S. State Department has made clear that there is no higher priority than the safety and security of American citizens abroad. Multiple countries around the world have made clear that they are closely monitoring the case. Now is the time for the Kuwaiti authorities to release Mr. Shihab-Eldin and draw a line under this deeply concerning case,” said Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC.
