Drone strike _ Wollega _ Ethiopia

Borkena

Toronto – The Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) on Friday reported that the defense forces carried out drones strikes on Thursday in East Wollega, Giddaa Ayyaanaa district,  at Dirree Guddaa  – Oromia region of Ethiopia.

“Modern combat drones are engineered for surgical precision–capable of placing a strike within centimeters of a designated target. But under Abiy Ahmed, these machines don’t often find military assets. They somehow end up targeting farmers tending their land, livestock grazing in the fields, and families sleeping in their homes,” the organization said in a message it shared on its X page.

While it has shared images and video clips purportedly showing the aftermath of the strike, it has not quantified the number of casualties. The OLA had been pointing fingers at the government  in connection with killings in the Oromia region. The government makes similar claims and links atrocities to OLA.

The Ethiopian Defense Force has not remarked on the recent claim.

There has been a heavy reliance on drone strikes in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. A report the Amhara Association of America released in November 2025, indicated that thousands of civilians were killed in more than 72 drone strikes in the region in a span of two months. The victims were mostly civilians.

Reputable human rights organizations including local ones like EHRCO confirmed that civilians were targeted in drone strikes. The Defense Force denies that it does not target  civilians.
