Toronto – The Ethiopian Association in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Surrounding Regions this week elected a new Board after what it called a “succesful” General Meeting.
The newly elected Board, with expressed commitment to strengthen community leadership and partnerships, is composed of nine members. Four of them serve in board member roles while five are leading the association in different executive capacities.
Rahel Getu, whose social media profile suggests work experience with the United Nations, is elected to lead it as President.
“This is a moment of responsibility, unity, and renewal for our community.
With deep humility and pride, I thank you for the trust you have placed in me to serve as President of our Association. I accept this responsibility with care, respect, and a strong commitment to serve.
I stand before you not as someone with all the answers, but as one ready to listen, to learn, and to serve. We may not always agree, but I will listen with empathy, understanding, and an open mind…,” she said in her message to the Community Members.
The Board identified service delivery excellence, partnership building, inclusion and community empowerment as priority areas.
In a Press Release sent to Borkena, The new president is quoted as saying “Our priority is to strengthen how we serve our community, deepen partnerships, and ensure the Association continues to be a space where all members feel represented, connected, and empowered.”

• Rahel Gettu — President
• Netsanet Alem — Vice President
• Birhanu Lema — Secretary General
• Emebet Mekonnen — Public Relations Director
• Fikre Yitagesu — Treasurer
• Wondwosen Gebru — Board Member
• Dejene Tedla — Board Member
• Teras Asfaw — Board Member
• Etsubdink Lealem — Board Member
The association has been serving Ethiopians for over 45 years since its establishment in 1981.
