South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday fired the governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Johnny Ohisa Domian, as the country grapples with soaring inflation and a worsening economic crisis.
Kiir replaced Ohisa with Addis Ababa Othow, who served in the same position last year.
No reason was given for the dismissal of the central bank governor, but the country has faced severe cash shortages in local currency, and government employees have gone unpaid for months.
Othow served as first deputy governor since February 2025 before he was appointed the bank’s governor in June 2025.
