(Nairobi, Kenya) — TPLF released an official statement saying that “Tigray Security Forces” stopped an offensive by federal forces near Shererina in Western Tigray. The statement, issued from Mekelle, said that federal troops, along with Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces and allied groups, launched repeated assaults backed by airstrikes from early morning until late afternoon.
TPLF officials reported that Tigrayan forces halted the attack after intense fighting in the border area. The statement read, “Through their courage, discipline, and determination, our security forces have once again written a historic chapter that will be remembered by generations to come.”
The Tigray Regional Government stated that the attack caused heavy casualties and that hospitals from Western Tigray to Gondar were filled with injured soldiers. Officials added that federal command units were evacuating the wounded to medical centers in other regions by air.
The Tigray government warned of potential attacks on other fronts and vowed to maintain its defense. The briefing noted, “There is every reason to believe that it may soon attempt similar human-wave offensives on other fronts,” adding, “The people of Tigray possess the inherent and lawful right to defend their survival, security, sovereignty, and right to self-determination.”
Federal authorities and the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) have not verified the casualty figures or frontline updates cited in the Mekelle statement.
