Political prisoners who have been unjustly detained around the world have not just lost their freedoms, but have been removed from their loved ones’ lives too. Sometimes for years.
With the #FreeToBeHome initiative, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power introduces the faces of the people and families who have been affected by politically motivated detention.
“Unjust imprisonment of individuals on the basis of their beliefs, political affiliation or speech cannot be tolerated,” Power said. “To the families of the detainees: We have not forgotten about you. We will continue to make sure your stories and those of others are heard until all those unjustly imprisoned are free to be home.”
