President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have maintained that opposition leader Raila Odinga is plotting to re-introduce a coalition government.

While addressing a rally in Nakuru on Saturday, Uhuru said Raila knows he will get a humiliating defeat and thus wants to clinch to power through a back door.

The duo kicked off Jubilee campaigns in Nakuru and Narok Counties in preparation for fresh elections after the Supreme Court nullified the August 8 presidential elections.
Before traveling to Nakuru, Uhuru earlier on addressed a meeting with governors, senators, Woman Reps and MCAs elected on Jubilee ticket at State House Nairobi where the maintained he did not agree with the Supreme court ruling, invalidating his election on August 8.

“This people are not interesting with us having an election, they want a Nusu mkate government but let me tell the kwa serikali yangu hata slice moja hupati,” Uhuru said.
Uhuru while at Statehouse declared his team has no time to waste but will immediately proceed with campaigns across the country.

” We want to show them that it is the electorate who decides, not Maraga and a few people at the Supreme Court,’ he said.

He said that Jubilee brigade is ready for the re-run and dared IEBC to declare a date soon.

He maintained that Jubilee will respect the verdict of the court but dared Raila Odinga lead coalition to touch on IEBC commissioners.

He said it is only IEBC that is mandated to hold an election and Jubilee will not allow the narrative by NASA to bring other people to oversee the election.

” Nawaonya, wasidhubutu kugusa IEBC, kama hawataki uchaguzi waache kutusumbua,” Uhuru warned.

“It is the same IEBC which managed the election of all MPs and Governors as well as MCAs including those from the Opposition but they have not complained. Now that we are preparing for fresh presidential elections, they are telling us IEBC will not manage the elections They should stop playing with us, we are not children,”he added.

His sentiments were echoed by DP Ruto who said whether Maraga likes or not Uhuru is the sitting president and will still win the second round with a landslide.

” Let us show them that its Kenyans who elect leaders but not Maraga” Ruto said.

Ruto said voters elected 170 Jubilee MPs out of 290, 800 MCAs out 1500, 27 governors out of the 47 and 31 Women Representatives out of 47, an indication that the party has a national outlook.

The duo were accompanied by Kipchumba Murkomen, Nakuru woman rep Liza Chelule, Governor Lee Kinyanjui, Senator Susan Kihika, Kimani Ngunjiri, Jayne Kihara, Joseph Tonui of Kuresoi south and Charity Gathambi of Njoro.

Don’t dictate to us how to express our dissapointment, Uhuru tells Judiciary

President Uhuru Kenyatta.

President Uhuru Kenyatta.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has blasted the Law Society of Kenya and the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association over claims that his statements are a direct threat to Judiciary.

In a statement from State House on Saturday, Uhuru said the current move by the two organisations is visible and a clear indication of the forceful alignment with the opposition.

KMJA and LSK criticized Uhuru for making derogatory attacks that border on threats to the judiciary terming them unfortunate and wholly inappropriate remarks from a head of state who is a symbol of unity.

“We have noted the various interventions from stakeholders relating to the determination of the petition against the presidential election. All commentary is valid because there is immense public interest in judicial proceedings and outputs,” read part of the statement.
Uhuru said like other public institutions, the Judiciary is subject to national values, including accountability and transparency within a democratic context.

“Any interventions suggesting that the Judiciary be immune from public scrutiny and democratic discussion promotes judicial tyranny, corruption and a fetishism that sanctifies all decisions regardless of merit,” he said.

Uhuru further said although Election petitions are legal causes undertaken within the context of intense political contestation, a probable outcome is always overturning the democratic will of the people for various reasons, good and bad.

He said this makes decisions relating to election petitions proper subject of robust political discussion.

“The recent decision by the Supreme Court is no exception. It has gratified many, but also disappointed many. Just as no one has dictated how those happy with the decision celebrated it -including through indecent exposure in public,” he said.

Uhuru added, “No one should dictate how those disappointed with it should express their disappointment, anger and dismay. Any attempt to guide reactions is unacceptable fascism and contrary to democratic freedom”.

He said his government has noted with great concern the active mobilisation of the Judiciary at all levels, and it’s visible and forceful alignment with the opposition.

This development, actively condoned by the Law Society of Kenya is indecent, immoral and dangerous to independence and neutrality of the Judiciary, he said.

According to him, the evolution of the Judiciary into an active political player paying claim to tyrannical unconstitutional powers is an excess that is not permitted by the constitution or democracy.
