The Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed Ali has arrived in Uganda for a two-day state visit.

Abiy Ahmed Ali who is going to be the chief guest for the Heroes Day celebrations in Kakumiro this Sunday was on Friday received at State House Entebbe by President Yoweri Museveni.

The two leaders are having bilateral talks after which they will address a joint conference.

Mr Museveni will on June 9 award the 41-year-old Abiy, a special medal for his towering contribution towards peace and unity in Africa.

Minister for the Presidency, Ms Esther Mbayo, says Abiy will be decorated with the Most Excellent Order of the Pearl of Africa medal, which is the highest accolade in the country.

On April 2, 2018, Abiy was confirmed and sworn in by Ethiopian parliament as Prime Minister of Ethiopia, replacing Hailemariam Desalegn.

Mbayo said during the Heroes’ Day celebrations, 250 other people will be awarded Heroes medals in appreciation for their contribution to peace and dignity in the country.

The event celebrated since 1989, recognises Ugandans who sacrificed their lives in the struggle to achieve national Independence, peace and democracy.
