Letter to the Editor
December 11, 2015
Dear Ethiomedia Editor,
I just followed the protest on your website Diaspora Ethiopians stage Oromo solidarity marches . We need to condemn the killing of the young people by the government security forces in Ethiopia. However, as we see from the footage in Washington D.C., this was the protest organized and led by Oromos who carry their own flag.
As an Ethiopian who participated in many protests for more than two decades defending the interest of our people including Oromos, the national flag of Ethiopia which is green, yellow and red is absent on this “solidarity protest”. This is either the organizers in D.C. do not recognize Ethiopia as a country or they might think they are members of a newly to-be-born Oromia Republic, and have nothing to do with Ethiopia. We do not need to be politically correct to appease this group of people.
Your headline would have been correct if we had seen the Ethiopian flag in the protest. Until this tribal wall is brought down or removed, and struggle to live as equal under Ethiopia, there will not be freedom for all of us! Our freedom is on our own hands. Unite under Ethiopia we will win. Otherwise, the misery will continue for our children and grand children.
Thanks,
Tedla Asfaw
