The shooting of a British tourist in Bahir Dar will not affect tourism – Ministry of Culture and Tourism

The body of a British tourist who was gunned down by a policeman arrived at Bole Airport, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

(ENA) — The death of a British tourist after fatally shot by a gunman yesterday in Bahir Dar couldn’t affect the tourism flow to the country, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said.The tourist was killed earlier yesterday in the city of Bahir Dar, in Amhara regional state and the suspect is under custody.

The 50-year tourist was walking on the streets of Bahir Dar when he was fatally shot by a gunman, who turned himself in to police.

The identity of the victim and the suspect is not released yet.

Upon arrival of the body of the deceased in Addis Ababa for forensic tests, the Minister Amin Abdulkadir said this incident will not affect the country’s tourism industry.

Expressing condolences for the family of the deceased, the Minister said tourists should not be disturbed by this incident because it was not pre-planned and organized crime.

He affirmed that the police and military will work hard to ensure safety of tourists and citizens.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dina Mufti expressed hope that the strong and age long relationship between the two countries will not affect by this incident.

British Ambassador to Ethiopia Greg Dorey said the bilateral cooperation between the countries will be continued further strengthened.

He remarked that the British government understands that Ethiopia is a peaceful country, despite the case needs intensive investigation.
