Selam All,
I read some important postings, which I believed invited debates. That is healthy and I suppose why we are here. I would like to make a point here regarding the contents of articles that get posted on EEDN. We are not political organization as member or EEDN, but scholars, experts, researchers, political activists, and politically minded individuals. I believe there is no article (serious writings) that will offend us and that will not. Those with access can make the decision what is important to the diverse group I mentioned above. Beyond that, I think each of us can delineate our interests and not the interest of others. That is what will happen when we demand posts be to (our) interests. That will be wrong to suggest that posts
should be this type and kind. What type? and what kind? We have not defined them, and it would be crossing into the rights of others to suggest so. However, in another time, I would like to come back and share my views and opinion about what EEDN should be in form and character and purpose in the immediate future that hopefully our country will take a new shape. We have to synchronize our efforts with the efforts of purposeful and duty bound fellow Ethiopians, such as Shengo.
This time, I wanted to make a brief comment about two incredibly well thought ideas I read. I really like to get into the debates already resumed, not drag the issues one way or another, but to rectify what have been described from my point of view.
There are three views that represent all of our periods, the monarch, the derg, and the Thugs. We will never agree on what happened let alone what caused them. It is why we are here today in the situation, and so long we have extreme differences on this historic events, we will continue to differ on potential solutions that should combine us all. We need to understand what happened and why. We have to advance our common understanding so that we can solve our problems intellectually and wisely so that we can once for all enter a new era of unimagined challenges that our country / people are begging and waiting for.
Next I would like to dwell on this important point, and I hope many will join and expand our knowledge. We should do so not to blame or praise any one, because we are not a tribune, but to create common goal and mission for our next phase of political life, which I believe will be the last and best, and the way to end our 45 years of our life.
Peace
Zeg Fanta
